Marketplace in Lille, France
Lille is the capital of the Nord-Pas de Calais region in the northeast corner of France. It is the fourth largest metropolitan area in France after Paris, Lyon and Marseille.
A few years ago, my wife Elizabeth and I visited Lille to see a dear friend, Framboise Morhaim. After living in Los Angeles for many years with her husband, Joe, who had passed away recently, she decided to return to France, to Lille where one of her daughters lived.
Framboise rented a small apartment near the center of the city, and we stayed with her for a few days, in cramped quarters, but having a wonderful time.
As you can see in the photo, we were enjoying a luncheon of Moules-frites, a dish of mussels and fries, very popular in Belgium and also in Lille.
After lunch, we walked a few blocks to the Sunday market area, and Elizabeth and I were astounded. The market was abuzz for blocks around, with food and people, it seemed, from the corners of the globe.
I took some video, and you can see for yourself.
